Stephanie Barette

Meet Stephanie:

Pronouns: She/Her

Truth be told, I named my therapy practice after a coffee mug my friend gave me a while back … a mug which sarcastically declares, “I’m a ray of freaking sunshine!” This cheeky little mug actually encapsulates my worldview quite well. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are ups and downs and we are all works in progress. And that’s ok.

My role as a clinician is to partner with people who are ready to make sense of it all. I’ll help you identify what health uniquely means for you and guide you in developing a plan to achieve health in your life. In working with me, you’ll find a safe, accepting, and supportive environment.

I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a feminist, a mother of three, and an advocate for social justice. I enjoy hiking, traveling, binge watching Netflix, good books, and tacos. And let’s not forget cupcakes!

Counseling Approach:
I tailor my approach to individuals, their needs, and their state of change. I believe that therapy is all about relationships and I want to aid others in having a healthy relationship with themselves that can then translate to having one with the people they choose to hold in their lives.

I am strength and solution focused. I utilize Motivational Interviewing and am DBT & CBT informed.

Specializations:

I work with children and families (in-person appointments only), adolescents, young adults, and women. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, life transitions, women’s issues, sexual identity, and grief.

Training & Experience:

  • Retired US Marine Corps Sergeant, served 2006-2010
  • Graduated from Ferris State University with a degree in Social Work
  • Attended Grand Valley State University’s Advanced Standing program for Social Work
  • 8 + years of experience in the mental health field including work in school settings, community programs, hospitals, crisis response, and private practice
